Detailed Description RFID Inventory System

Commercial requirement for a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) inventory system.

NMMC requires a standalone, self-contained radio-frequency identification (RFID) tagging, reader, and inventory system to maintain accountability on the more than 3,500 firearms held within the museum’s Small Arms/Light Weapons collection. The following requirements are necessary for this system.

4. At least one hand-held RFID reader/scanner(s) required for conducting inventories both in the vault and within the museum. A minimum of an eight (8) foot scanning range is required.
a. All handheld and stationary scanners will automatically update the inventory software in real time.

5. 4,000 RFID tags shall be semi-permanently affixed to each firearm via rubber or plastic coated steel cable so that they will remain attached to the firearm, are tamper resistant, and prevent abrasion on weapon attachment points.
a. Tags must be small and inconspicuous as to not take away from the visual focus on the artifact when on exhibit.
b. The Contractor shall encode tags and the NMMC staff will affix to each firearm.
c. Tags cannot be larger than 2” in diameter.
d. Preferred tag shape is rectangular.
e. RFID tags shall be secured through trigger guards, sling swivels, or other openings on the firearms in order to be a semi-permanent method of maintaining weapons accountability.
