Detailed Description Prequalification are invited for Equine Biometric Data Collection Systems
Description
As part of ongoing initiatives designed to monitor and improve equine welfare outcomes in horse racing, the AGCO is seeking to gather information about existing equine biometric data collection systems, including hardware and software specifications, types of data collected, guidance on how to interpret the data, projected costs, and system validations.
The biometric data collection systems are intended to be used on Thoroughbred racehorses, during live racing and workouts, 10 months of the year (expansion to future use in Quarter-horse and Standardbred horses would also be of interest. • The AGCO oversees horse racing at two Thoroughbred, one Quarter-horse and twelve Standardbred racetracks throughout the province. • The AGCO is interested in initially, equipping Ontario’s two Thoroughbred racetracks with hardware and software (field sizes = 10 to 14 horses; number of races = 10 to 16 races per raceday), as well as a sufficient number of replacement units for use in the event of malfunctions or damage. • The AGCO wishes to explore the use of biometric data collection systems to monitor the fitness and soundness of horses during racing and training in order to identify subtle, early changes in health and performance that may indicate that a horse may be at higher risk for breakdown or fatality. This information may to be used to identify horses with a significant risk of injury.
